GM Abhijit Kunte won the 1st Poona Club Blitz tournament !
 
The 1st  Poona Club Blitz Event was organised by Buddhibal Krida Trust In Association with CPAI on 30th July 2006 at Poona Club, Pune.  Poona club has come up a big way & started a new tradition in the Indian chess history by sponsoring a series of blitz championship.
Poona Club will be sponsoring 6 Blitz events like this in Pune. The champions of this blitz tourneys will be selected to participate in the Rs.5 Lac prize money knock out championship to be held in the year end.
  The first of this series was held on 30th July &  grand success was attributed as total 194 players participated in this event. Mr. Munit Chinoy, President, Poona Club & Mr. Cyrus Patel inaugurated the event. On this occasion Mr.Chinoy of Poona club has promised to their full-fledged & long lasting support for Chess fraternity. Grand Master Abhijit Kunte, WGM Swati Ghate, WGM Eesha Karavade, IM C.S. Gokhale, & IM Prathamesh Mokal made the event prestigious. Several National talents like Soumya Swaminathan, Amruta Mokal  & lot of local youngster also enjoyed the flavor of blitz tourney.  Abhijit scored 8.5 points convincingly out of   possible 9 rounds & claimed the title. He was awarded Rs. 5000/- as well as the trophy as the first prize. One of the Indian women talent Eesha Karavade, who recently achieved her maiden IM norm in the tournament at Spain showed the same form & finished 2nd with 8 points. Soumitra Mujumdar made the upset by defeating CS Gokhale in the 4th round & rightly claimed the 3rd Position. CS Gokhale defeated Swati Ghate in the last round & also tied to second position by scoring 8 points. Prathamesh Mokal struggling with his bad form could not finish in the top bracket. National Champion Swati Ghate was also out of form & by scoring 6.5 points could only claim Best ladies  prize. Mr. S.K.Sharma, Chief Commissioner of Income tax gave away the prizes. Mr. Satish Desai, President of Pune District Chess Association was also present on the occasion & with a sense of humour remarked if the chief commissioner of Income tax extends his full support by captivating the black money from big buddies & sponsoring some chess event, it will be no longer that India can produce many more Vishwanathan Anand.  Arbiter Joseph D'souza & his able team smoothly conducted the tournament. Total prize money for this tournament was 25,000/- Rs. and total 30 prizes were distributed.

  In the sixth round of the IV. György Marx Memorial, Harikrishna drew with Hungarian GM  Acs Peter (ELO 2520). As all the games drawn in the sixth round, Harikrishna maintained the half point lead.

 In the fifth round of the IV. György Marx Memorial, Harikrishna drew with Chinese GM  Wang Yue (ELO 2626). As all the games drawn in the fifth round, Harikrishna maintained the half point lead.

Harikrishna drew with Berkes, maintains sole lead position

  In the fourth round of the IV. György Marx Memorial , Harikrishna drew with Hungarian GM Berkes Ferenc (ELO 2601), the event is being held in Paks, Hungary having Average rating of 2622, Category 15.
  After four rounds Indian GM Pentala Harikrishna is half a point ahead of Efimenko and  Almási (2˝ points).
